Elisa began her research career during her Master’s degree, where she studied the amygdala neuromodulation and its relation to fear memory formation through deep brain stimulation techniques. Afterwards, during her doctoral thesis, she studied the protective and therapeutic role of environmental enrichment in animal models of binge drinking and sucrose, as well as the modulating role of the orexin system in pre-dependent stages of addiction. Currently, Elisa is conducting studies on drug screening for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. She is mainly interested in preclinical models and their translation for the study of various diseases, as well as in innovative therapies in health psychology.
