Manuela leads the NeuroProtectionLab group. Thanks to her extensive experience of more than 20 years in drug R&D, she has a wide network of collaborations with both the pharmaceutical industry and the academic sector and has participated as a co-inventor in 12 patents. Her scientific contributions include more than 200 articles published in indexed journals with an h-index of 50, she is a co-inventor in more than 12 patents and has participated as a co-investigator or principal investigator in more than 27 research projects (competitive public calls). Her lines of research revolve around neuroprotection aimed at neurodegenerative diseases. Manuela leads and coordinates the “Pharmacological Neuroprotection in Neurodegenerative Diseases and Stroke” Group (Group 16) at the Hospital de La Princesa Research Institute (IIS La Princesa), and she belongs to the Spanish Network of Excellence Ref. RED2018‐102362‐T. She belongs to the CIVIS Health Hub where she participates in different joint activities such as summer schools, webinars, joint Master’s and PhD programs. At the same time, she coordinates the “University Master’s Degree in Pharmacological Research-UAM” since 2011, she has directed 18 doctoral theses and currently directs four. She has international collaboration with research institutes from countries such as the United States, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Belgium, Japan and Romania. She has participated as an expert member and developed collaborative projects with several pharmaceutical companies (Janssen, Lilly, Pfizer, Bioibérica, Noscira) and has held the position of deputy director of the Sponsorship Chair in Cytoprotection and Inflammation sponsored by Bioibérica S.A.
