Diego’s thesis project is focused in how NRF2 is able to initiate and promote cancer development. He is especially interested in how NRF2 regulates and is regulated by some of the most important tumorigenic pathways, such as the hippo pathway, WNT/B-catenin or cytoskeleton modulators. Besides, he is quite interested in how NRF2 participates in the metabolism of cancer stem cells, quite important in tumour resistance to treatments and tumour recurrence. His main intention with these studies is to understand new pathological pathways in tumour development, so they could be modified to create new therapeutic strategies.
