We are looking for PhD students eligible to apply for a competitive predoctoral fellowship

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Manuela García López (Manuela G. López)

PhD PROGRAM: PhD Program in Pharmacology and Physiology

DESCRIPTION OF OUR RESEARCH LINES:

The NeuroprotectionLab (http://neurodiscovery-ndd.com/gt1 ) is a multidisciplinary group that belongs to the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics of the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Teófilo Hernando Institute for Drug R&D and the Instituto de Investigación Hospital de la Princesa. Our group seeks to improve the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases through the identification of new potentially therapeutic targets; the study of the mechanism of action of drugs already marketed or the repositioning of drugs by using big data techniques for virtual screening of large libraries of chemotherapeutics.

Neurodegenerative diseases share common pathophysiological mechanisms for this, we want to understand the interrelationships between the CNS innate immune system, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress and protein degradation systems (with special emphasis on autophagy systems) in neurodegenerative processes. We use different in vitro and in vivo models to address these objectives in addition to laboratory and in-house infrastructures that allow us to perform excellent research. We also have active collaborations with different national and international experts in the field.

We are currently able to incorporate young and motivated people who want to develop an excellent research career at our lab. We offer support for applying to different calls for predoctoral fellowships such as “Ayudas para la formación de profesorado universitario (FPU)”, “Formación de personal Investigador-Universidad Autónoma de Madrid”, private foundations.
